This freelance role will work with the group of volunteers from the beginning of July to the end of September (once a week). Background to the project
MultakaOxford
MultakaOxford is a project based at the Pitt Rivers Museum & History of Science Museum, part of Oxford University’s Gardens, Libraries and Museums.
The term Multaka translates from Arabic to English as ’meeting point’. The project’s key aim is to bring people and communities together to strengthen understanding through inter-cultural dialogue through the mutual sharing of art, stories, culture and science in the museums.
Sustainable Fashion show
Multaka is partnering with Cherwell Collective to be part of their 2024 Carbon Cost of Fashion Campaign. This will culminate a sustainable fashion show, featuring local artists and aims to spotlight local innovation and artistry in rethinking materials to divert them from landfills.
Whilst we will be inspired by the museums, the main venue we will use is the Waste Innovation Station HQ (WISH) in Kidlington.
The role will include:
1.Weekly contact time with Mutlaka staff and volunteers on Thursdays – working with volunteers / participants at the Museums and at WISH (based in Kidlington). The aim will be to support volunteers to develop their designs through to completion from the beginning of July to end of September.
2.Preparation and planning meetings with the Cherwell Collective team and MultakaOxford.
3.Development of an overarching plan to support the volunteers through the creation, design, and process.
