Looking at the relationship between history and media at Global Academy

I had the best time today speaking with students and staff at the Global Academy in Hayes!

Thank you so much to Yuvraj Sidhu for inviting me. Yuvraj is an extraordinarily sweet, thoughtful and proactive young man, and it was a genuine pleasure to work with him to plan this brilliant event at his school today.

In a talk to the Sixth Form assembly, I shared my insights and experiences from building a career that combines expertise in historical research with a wide variety of engagement with the media and drama production. I highlighted the importance of well-researched historical knowledge to the production of high-quality media content, particularly when we are increasingly looking to tell more diverse, inclusive human stories.

I was amazed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the school - above all, the vibrant and creative environment it offers for students to thrive in. All the teachers and students were so friendly and engaged, and it made me wish that such a school had existed when I was a kid, especially one so uniquely engaged in encouraging young people to develop skills and experience in media production and broadcasting. I was seriously impressed from the start of the day: when journalism students, Esme, Conrad and Liberty sat me down for a highly professional podcast recording, and Liberty took through me an extremely well-researched set of interview questions!

Thanks so much to everyone at Global Academy for having me today - it was such a fun, inspiring day!
