Film Oxford is a vibrant arts charity based in East Oxford, dedicated to supporting creative community projects. In collaboration with Oxford Pride and the Ultimate Picture Palace (UPP), they hosted a special Pride Film Night, featuring the screening of Going Out Coming Out - a powerful documentary capturing LGBTQ+ life in Oxford during the 1970s and early 1980s.

The film was created through an intergenerational project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, where young people not in employment teamed up with older community members. Together, they shared stories and developed digital skills, bridging generations through creativity and collaboration.

Going Out Coming Out is part of the ‘Going Out’ trilogy, which also includes:

  • Spaces We Made Our Own – developed with Oxford’s African Caribbean community, exploring the social and cultural activities of the African Caribbean community in the 1960’s and 70’s.
  • Twist and Shout – a celebration of Oxford’s baby boomer generation and the music scene that shaped their youth.
