A blue plaque is to be unveiled in honour of William Archibald Spooner (1844 – 1930), at 11, Keble Road.
William Spooner is best known for ‘spoonerisms’. Although most famous ‘spoonerisms’ were not his own, he is seen as the creator the genre (he'll be described on the plaque as 'eponymous word transposer'!).
11, Keble Road is now part of the University of Oxford Department of Computer Science, William Spooner lived there with his family in 1882 – 1903 before moving to the Warden’s Lodgings.
Everyone is welcome to join what is expected to be a playful occasion, and an opportunity to learn more of an Oxford character who is often treated with undue flippancy.
