OUDCE (Oxford University Department for Continuing Education)

OUDCE (Oxford University Department for Continuing Education) is an exciting, forward-looking, and welcoming arm of the University which provides high quality courses for everyone, from free open days to weekly classes to diplomas and full postgraduate degrees. We are based at Rewley House in the centre of town, and Ewert House in Summertown, and we also run online courses which you can study from the comfort of your own home.

Our courses include weekly classes, some in person in Oxford, some online.

We also run ‘Short Online Courses’, including one on the Victorians and one on life in the time of Elizabeth I.

For those looking for something more substantial, we have four major local history courses, all taught part-time and leading to qualifications. Our Diploma in English Social and Local History is a two-year course looking at the sweep of English social history from the end of the Roman occupation to the close of the 20th century. We have an Advanced Diploma in Local History, taught entirely online, which is a one-year course that offers training in how to be a good local historian, including looking at sources and the use of computers for the study of history.

For postgraduates, we have a two-year part-time Master’s degree in Local History, which includes a major research project on a topic of your choice. We also offer a Doctorate in English Local History.
